Widespread surveillance is indiscriminate and real. I am not suggesting that all surveillance is sinister, or that we should live our lives as paranoid Luddites. No, I am acknowledging a fact that describes world that I live in. In reaction, I do what I can to arm myself with the tools to defend aspects of my privacy.
I have no evidence that my new smart tv is spying on me. However, it defiantly turns itself on after I turn it off, sometimes 6-7 times a day. This is very wasteful and annoying, so I have plans to build a small digital device that is compatible with the TV remote and will disconnect the TV when it is off.
Lucky me, I finally understand how remotes work on technical programming level!
